4ormfunction, New Zealand

Navman’s highest selling consumer navigation device, the F20, was designed in New Zealand by specialist design consultancy 4ormfunction. The company used SolidWorks 3D computer-aided design and manufacturing software, supplied by Intercad, for the project.

Challenges:

  • Design a fully functional product within a small casing
  • Bring the product to market faster than the competition
  • Enhance the commercial viability of the product
  • Reduce development cycle by improving collaboration with customer

SolidWorks Benefits:

  • Delivered a feature-rich product using the minimum number and size of parts
  • Helped the team collaborate quickly and effectively with each other, as well as with external suppliers and vendors, to meet the project’s tight deadlines
  • New product is easy to manufacture and assemble
  • Models and materials chosen work within the constraints dictated by the design

“SolidWorks enabled us to engineer the external housing and internal architecture of the product to minimise the number of parts required without sacrificing function or aesthetics.”
