Giltrap Engineering, New Zealand
Giltrap Engineering designs and manufactures a range of agricultural equipment including forage wagons, bale feeders and slurry spreaders that are distributed in Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, South America and South East Asia. Giltrap was the first New Zealand company to invest in SolidWorks 3D CAD/CAM technology.
Challenges:
- Manual design was inefficient and repetitive
- Design and development process lacked structure
- The creation of complementary design data including technical manuals was outsourced, causing errors in detail
- 2D drawings limit visualisation of products
Benefits:
- SolidWorks catalogues models and components so they can be re-used for new designs and to improve product quality
- Innovative ideas and design changes can be implemented and tested before committing to a physical prototype
- Product information, training manuals and technical information can be generated directly from SolidWorks ensuring accurate information
- 3D models and cross section views show a product as it really is and improves confidence in design work
“Our move to SolidWorks represented a quantum leap for the quality of our products and design and development process. We now use it for all our products and can’t do without it.”
